| Belreguardo was the name of the most sumptuous country Villa of the Este family, Delizia di Belreguardo, which was surrounded by splendid gardens. Niccolò III Este commissioned its construction around the year 1435, near the city of Ferrara. Its magnificence was celebrated by many artists; among them, Domenico da Ferrara, who created a dance called Belreguardo. The Belreguardo Company of Historical Dance chose this name to evoke the beauty of the bygone centuries, which lives anew through dance. Belreguardo blend music, dance and play-acting in their performances, which are usually held in historical sites. The company's goal is to create dances in a philological way and to keep on preserving the dances' main peculiarities such as the dancer's role, considered both a performer and a member of the audience at the same time. Belreguardo Company, born in 1993 in Assisi, has performed under the direction of Chieko Ono in historical places such as Villa Contarini in Piazzola sul Brenta (PD); the Castle of Monselice (PD); the Sala dei Notari of the Palace of Priori in Perugia; the Sala Sisto IV in the Trinci Palace in Foligno; Trompeterschloss Bad Sackingen (Germany), Elztal Museum of Waldkirch (Germany), Frauenkirch of Lienzingen (Germany), Sala della Conciliazione and the old Art Gallery in Assisi and the Sala delle Asse in the Castle of the Sforza family, in Milan (Music and Poetry at San Maurizio Festival). In the latter castle, the Company contributed to the audiovisual work entitled The Lady with the Ermine, a production of the Japanese television NHK. The Company's costumes are reconstructed following the original documents of the Renaissance time. |
